Chelsea Gallery

I went to Chelsea galleries last Wednesday. I saw many amazing works and they had great experience. I want to talk about two galleries which are Jonathan Levine gallery and Anton Kern gallery. They both have great contemporary paintings.

Jonathan Levine gallery is pleased to present King Cuts, a solo exhibition of new work by Seattle- based artist Mike Leavitt in what will be his third solo exhibition at the gallery. I felt in this gallery that I am in the different world. The creation and ideas are different level. The artist also used beautiful colors in his painting, and the gallery’s lightings were really bright yellow color. Thus, it helped to show the specific colors and I also can see refractions between paintings and the light. Moreover, the wall was pure white color, so I could only focus to the paintings.

I found these tow contemporary paintings. I think this background view is night of the Seattle which is absolutely beautiful. These building’s lights makes realist, and I also feel the moon lights through the gradation of the dark night sky. At the first time, I though this guy is trying to suicide from the tool building. However, I looked this painting closely, and I found a scoreboard near his feet. Therefore, he is enjoying his scoreboard in the beautiful Seattle night. Moreover, I can feel very relax and joyful from his expression. I really like this paint because it has many gradations color with make it very natural and smooth texture.

Second one is this a little girl’s painting. The artist used upset colors in this painting which are red and blue. Moreover, her face skin color has many different colors such as a pink, yellow, sky-blue, orange, and green color. I think that this artist want to show contour, highlight, and refractions through using different colors. This painting was a huge, so it was very impressive in the gallery. I learned from this painting that using many different colors and gradations makes painting very unique and special. Therefore, I don’t want to be scare to use many different colors in one painting.

Anton Kern Gallery is by Nicole Eisenman who is New York artist and she will present a new body of paintings, a group of drawings and one plaster sculpture. The works rage from the monumental to the intimate in sixe and address day-to-day life in New York City with all its ordinary, unexpected and sometimes marvelous moments. Her painting were very unique interesting and similar with animations. Because of the artist used one contour line, so her paintings are more look animation than realistic. However, her paintings are modernization. As you can see, these two paintings are an example. They both have technologies in their painting such as a smart phone and MacBook. Because of them, these painting look realistic even though they are look unreal in their paintings. Therefore, her paintings were very unique and interesting to me.

Lastly, I also found a sculpture in Anton Ken Gallery. It is a wood material, but also has many different materials such as a cigarettes, ashtray, code, soda can, watch, brash, and broken light bulb. However, everything painted by white color. It was very unique peace.

In conclusion, I felt that contemporary arts are infinite freedom. You can create whatever you want. Thought this experience of visiting galleries, I got thousands of ideas and imaginations. I will go back there again.
