I went to Chelsea galleries last Wednesday. I saw many amazing works
and they had great experience. I want to talk about two galleries which are
Jonathan Levine gallery and Anton Kern gallery. They both have great contemporary
paintings.
Jonathan Levine gallery is pleased to present King Cuts, a solo
exhibition of new work by Seattle- based artist Mike Leavitt in what will be
his third solo exhibition at the gallery. I felt in this gallery that I am in
the different world. The creation and ideas are different level. The artist
also used beautiful colors in his painting, and the gallery’s lightings were
really bright yellow color. Thus, it helped to show the specific colors and I
also can see refractions between paintings and the light. Moreover, the wall
was pure white color, so I could only focus to the paintings.
Anton Kern Gallery is by Nicole Eisenman who is New York artist and she
will present a new body of paintings, a group of drawings and one plaster sculpture.
The works rage from the monumental to the intimate in sixe and address
day-to-day life in New York City with all its ordinary, unexpected and
sometimes marvelous moments. Her painting were very unique interesting and
similar with animations. Because of the artist used one contour line, so her paintings
are more look animation than realistic. However, her paintings are modernization.
As you can see, these two paintings are an example. They both have technologies
in their painting such as a smart phone and MacBook. Because of them, these
painting look realistic even though they are look unreal in their paintings.
Therefore, her paintings were very unique and interesting to me.
In
conclusion, I felt that contemporary arts are infinite freedom. You can create whatever
you want. Thought this experience of visiting galleries, I got thousands of
ideas and imaginations. I will go back there again.
Very nice work Mun- so glad you saw things you liked!
