In class I learn that a  sculpture is a three dimensional work of art that can be carved, modeled, constructed or cast. It can be describe as assemblage. The best  thing about sculptures is that everything is meant to see from different angles.

The art that I decided to look in the entrance of the E building, was a  representational wall sculpture of half of the  upper body made of plaster.  The sculpture is subtractive because the material was carved and molded to create the form the of the face and part of the body. The method is carving.

This sculpture represents a statue, a statue refers to the human body. This specific work of art  represents a  relief, because the sculpture form projects from the  background.

As I closely analyze the statue, I saw that it was composed by of both negative and positive space. The positive space is the actual material of the statue, in this case  the the head and left hand. The negative space is the  empty space, the things that the artist didn’t want to show, in this case the rest of the body, in the sculpture we can also see negative space in between the left hand and the chest, also in between the face and the shoulder.

Some of the most out standing visual elements in the sculpture is texture. This work of art represents actual texture, a tactile experience where  the spectator can actually feel it. The hair seems to have a rough texture, and the rest of the statue seems to be really smooth. Value also plays on important role  because the sculpture is in front of the building where all the light reflects in the face. The color of the sculpture is white, and it’s also place in a white wall, but  value creates a nice shadow in the back.
