The sculpture
that I found very interesting was located in the M-building and in the hallway
of the flags. The sculpture is a representational work of art. The technique of
the sculpture is an assembled and additive process. It is also a cast sculpture
it’s a hallow metal and has an assembled piece attached to the cast. The sculpture
also has very visible detailed features on the sculpture and very visible that
they also used their fingers in order to achieve those features. The sculpture
that I chose and that captured my attention was a train door which one of my
classmates noticed what it was because I didn’t notice at the beginning. That just
shows us that we all view art and the world as well in different perspectives. The
main sculpture was a crowd of people in the middle of the train door. You can
really see how the crowd is getting on or going out of the train. It reminds me
of the morning and afternoon rush in the subways every day of the week. There were
faces on one side and on the other you only saw the back of most of the people
but one or two faces on the opposite side of the others. The shape of the
sculpture on the section of the crowd was of an organic shape and the actual
geometric shape of the door that is also part of the sculpture. The sculpture
also has different tones of light and dark along the organic shape of the
crowd. The only thing that I couldn’t decide was which is the front and the
back of the sculpture. I was also mesmerized because the sculptor/ artist
really captured the expression of the people riding the subway. Many get
irritated and upset and just want to get on the train and get to where ever
they need to go. The sculpture really
captured a vivid reality that many New Yorkers live every day traveling in the
MTA.
