the painting i chose is called "the ferty men" it was painted by Camile Cohort in 1875. its a 2D oil painting. its initial vibes are very cool, soothing view of a beautiful tree besides the river and 3 people in a boat, one is rowing and the other two i beleive are trying to achor it or probably just sitting. the painting is beautiful in general but its not very clear. its kind of blurry all i could make out of the background is that its a vast sea, and mountains and a small little town in the background. now i donot know if these people are coming from the town or going to it. the tree is beautiful and apparently the artist wanted the viewer to notice that its very windy and stormy thats why the beautiful scenario of leaves flying is scattered all over the painting. there are not much symbols in the painting but i do know that in the era the painting was made oil paintings were very famous.
when i found information related to the painting on the met website it said that in early ninteenth century french painters and artists used to paint landscapes inspired by poetry and corot's speciality was idyllic painting and a timeless sense to it as he was an artist from the movements like realism, romanticism, etc. romanticism is quite evident in the painting.  romanticism emphasizes the inspiration, subjectivity and primacy of the indiviual. for some reason when i read about corot's personal life it mentioned that he was never involved in a long term stable relationship although he had alot of relationships. so his life shows a little effect on his paintings. the scenario in the painting is quite ethereal, beautiful. but its still lonely from the perspective of the ferryman as to the artist provided no details whether the three people are together, either its a couple or not. but the fact that they are sitting on one end the ferryman is on the other started to bother me and as i read more reviews on the painting online it occurred to me that maybe its a couple who is going somewhere away from the town. but its still confusing to me that why would the artist title the picture "the ferrymem" why not something else, is he trying to illustrate his loneliness and need for compassion through the ferryman.!
