Blop Post #1: Ways of Looking

On 2nd week of the class, we learned ways of looking at the art. There are formal analysis, stylistic analysis, contextual analysis, and biographical analysis. Formal Analysis is to look at the detail of the art. For example, color, shape, line, mass and space. After looking at these details, relate it to what these elements are trying to tell/ show. Stylistic analysis is about quality, expressions in the art of individual and find out what makes this art distinctive to others. Contextual analysis is relating the environment of the art to the history to find out why and when this art was created. Biographical analysis is about how the artist have a connection to the art that he created and what kind of relationships is there between the art and the artist.

I found this picture on the first floor of M-building. This seems to be an abstract art. It looks very complex with so many colors. When you look at the colors that are mostly used, they are very distinctive (red, blue, yellow, green, and orange). This shows how the artist is distinctive and it looks like he have he’s own standards. This art looks like if it is just colored instead of making lines to separate from different colors. They were overlapped when I looked closely. Red and blue is the primary color and these colors shows aspiration. The color yellow is mostly centralized at the center of the picture and this gives me a positive feeling. When you look at the picture closely, colors are overlapped and it doesn’t have order which makes it look very complex. This seems to me that artist have complicate mind at the same time while he has he’s standard and is ambitious.
I have looked at the picture through the stylistic analysis by finding the distinctive elements and relating it to the expressions in the art of individual. Also, I have looked the art in the formal analysis by looking at the details like color, shape, and line.
