ways of
looking at art....
in the 2nd week of class we learned
about how we have different ways of looking at art and artwork. art is a
mystery in itself. I love to look at different works paintings, sculptures,
etc. In La guardia the hallways are filled with artworks I always use to pass
by them without looking properly or trying to interpret their meanings. this
was the first time that I looked at artwork in order to actually understand
what the person was trying to express? is it just simply a painting, or is it
having some context to some scenario. as i mentioned we learned in class that
there are different ways of looking at art formal, stylistic.
The painting I chose is present in
the La Guardia Community College hallway. The painting is a vase of flowers with
fruits scattered around it. the visual appearance is just delightful to
eyes. I would have just considered it to be a normal painting, of a vase of
flowers and some pears scattered around it on a cloth. It was a very basic,
homely kind of painting, the vibes were very positive due to the mixture of
bright colors. But upon a closer two minute look on the painting I started to
notice the amount of depth, hard work and time the artist might have put in to
make the painting. The artist shows great perfection in the art as to the fact
that the painting has so much depth in it, the shadowing, the drawings, and the
combination of colors with the background being darker made the vase and fruits
stand out. The artist mixed cool and warm colors to give the painting a vibrant
and lively look. The painting seems so beautiful and yet if we look closely it
shows the reflection of light, the reflection of the flowers and pears in the
smaller and big vase and the fact the way the pears are placed as if someone
just removed one and disturbed the cloth.
The painting was beautiful but it
had no information next to it as to who painted it or when it was painted. I think
I used more of the formal way to look at the painting as to I was obsessed with
its bright and cool colors mix.
