In
last class we learn a lot of basic concepts of
drawing. Drawing can be define as creating space and dimension on a flat
surface. The image that I choose to analyze is a drawing from
the Artist Peggy Bacon (1895-1987), the tittle of the Image is
"City lights".
The
artist uses foreground/ middle ground/background in his work,
the three areas which determines proximity and space. The
first ground is wher
Shading
is extremely important in his work because it defines all the parts of the
artwork, the range of tone variates throughout out the painting depending
on where the light of the moon reaches. Since the moon seemed to be hitting the men's face and everything in front of him like the streets, the shading is light
and also the value. There is also light shading and light value around
the moon in the sky. On the other hand, all the parts where is hard to get
light are in a dark value and dark shading, like the front buildings.
Hatching
is use by the artist to create value to the image, lines are use to create
dimension on the buildings and the streets.
The
relative size in the artwork seemed to also variate, the size of the front
buildings are bigger in relation to the size of the back building which seemed
to decrease in the distance. This is also a good example that linear perspective
is use by the artists, the direction of the buildings and the streets
converging lines all meet at a vanishing point far to be seen, but we all know
that linear perspective is being use because all shapes get smaller in the
direction of the vanishing point with increasing distance from the eye.
I
can also tell that the artist uses overlapping in his artwork. He places on
building in front of the other in order to create illusion of
depth.
Good work!
